How do Proof and Mint State coins differ?
Mint State (MS): A coin that shows no evidence of wear or use in circulation.
Proof (PF): A specially produced coin for collectors that was struck from highly polished dies and on specially prepared planchets.
2013-(W) 1oz. Silver American Eagle MS70ER NGC Star Label (050-11-201370ST (27613))
The United States mint continues the Silver American Eagle program, now in its 28th year, with this 1oz. coin minted in .999 fine silver. On its obverse this coin displays a Walking Liberty design originally created by sculptor Adolph A. Weinman for the half dollar denomination (1916-1947). The reverse of this coin shows a Heraldic Eagle as designed by Chief Engraver John M. Mercanti. This particular coin was minted in the United States Mint facility in West Point, New York. Because the coin does not bear a mintmark, it is indistinguishable from coins minted at other facilities. The only way to know where these coins are struck is to have removed the coin directly from the sealed 500ct. Monster Box in which they were originally shipped. Straps that held the box together show the name of the facility in which the coins were struck. This coin is certified by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation as having been struck in West Point by the W mintmark in parentheses (meaning the mint is implied and not on the actual coin) in the top grade of MS-70, and is in the special West Point “Star” label holder. It is also certified as being an “Early Releases” coin, meaning it was graded within the first 30 days of the issue’s release from the Mint.
